The Bank of Taiwan's 1949 issues mark the moment the Nationalist government evacuated the mainland and established Taiwan as its base of operations — the currency reform of June 1949 replaced the collapsing Old Taiwan Dollar at a rate of 40,000 to 1, one of the more brutal redenominations of the postwar period.
