Additional information

The Beijing Opera silver series, issued through the early 2000s, was part of a broader push by the People's Bank to develop a collectibles market for commemorative coinage — a program that expanded aggressively after China's accession to the WTO in late 2001 brought increased foreign collector interest. The 2002 issue falls mid-series, by which point mintages had been carefully managed to sustain secondary market demand.

KM#1452 is struck to bullion-quality fineness but was never intended for circulation.
