Additional information

China's bid to join the international baseball community in the late 1980s prompted a short series of sports-themed commemoratives ahead of the 1990 Asian Games held in Beijing — the first time China had hosted a major multi-sport international event. The Asian Games issue was one of several parallel commemorative programs running simultaneously, each targeting different collector markets, which contributed to relatively modest individual mintages across the series.

The .925 fineness is notably higher than the .900 silver used in many contemporary Chinese commemoratives from the same period.
