| Reverse description | The reverse features a dynamic sculptural composition depicting heroic figures in vigorous motion, rendered in high relief in a style reminiscent of Chinese socialist realist monumental art. The figures, draped in flowing garments and shown striding forward with great energy, symbolize the Chinese people's resistance and victory. The face value '10元' is inscribed to the upper right of the design. A lengthy commemorative inscription runs along the upper periphery of the coin in Chinese characters. |

Issued sixty years after Japan's formal surrender in September 1945, this coin belongs to a wave of commemorative output Beijing authorized to mark the anniversary with considerable official emphasis. The War of Resistance Against Japan — the Chinese theater of World War II — cost an estimated 14 to 20 million Chinese lives, making it one of the deadliest national experiences of the twentieth century, though its commemoration within China was for decades subordinated to the narrative of Communist Party victory in the subsequent civil war. By 2005, state framing had shifted to foreground the anti-Japanese struggle more explicitly.
