| Obverse description | Central depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic triple-eaved circular roof and surrounding marble terrace and balustrade. The date 1996 appears in the exergue below the building. The upper field carries the Chinese state legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arranged in an arc, while the lower field bears the commemorative inscription 中国熊猫金币发行十五周年纪念 (15th Anniversary of the Issuance of Chinese Panda Gold Coins), also arcing along the border. Small decorative floral ornaments flank the central motif at the sides. |

The panda's distinctive black-and-white markings are rendered with fine frosted detail against the mirror-polished field. Leafy branches extend from the upper portion of the tree, framing the composition. The denomination 10元 appears to the lower left of the design, while the purity and weight inscription .999 1/10oz Au is inscribed along the right border in Latin characters. |
