Additional information

Chinese cinema traces its origin to 1905, when Ren Jingfeng filmed excerpts of the Peking opera performer Tan Xinpei at the Fengtai Photography Studio in Beijing — widely accepted as the first domestically produced Chinese film. The People's Bank has issued commemorative silver pieces marking major cinema anniversaries before, continuing a pattern of cultural commemoratives that accelerated significantly after 2000.
