Additional information

The Red Cross movement reached China in 1904 through a combination of foreign missionary pressure and Qing imperial politics — the government sought international legitimacy during the Russo-Japanese War being fought partially on Chinese soil. China's formal adherence to the Geneva Convention followed shortly after. This coin marks the centennial of that founding moment, issued under the China Gold Coin Corporation as part of the commemorative bullion program that expanded aggressively through the early 2000s.
