| Obverse description | Half-length armored effigy of Duke Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, turned three-quarters to the right, holding a battle axe over his right shoulder and grasping the hilt of a sword in his left hand, the date divided to either side of the figure. Surrounding the central effigy are concentric decorative rings populated with human figures personifying the seven known planets, encircled further by the signs of the zodiac. Two concentric circular legends in Latin run around the entire composition, creating an elaborate multi-register design characteristic of the Juliuslöser series. |
