Additional information

Georgia's 1993 coinage series was issued in the immediate aftermath of independence from the Soviet Union, at a moment when the country was simultaneously fighting a civil war against Zviadist forces and a separatist conflict in Abkhazia. The National Bank had only been established that year, and the tetri denominations were introduced alongside the lari's predecessor, the Georgian coupon, before a full currency reform could be stabilized.

Coins of this issue saw almost no meaningful circulation in their early years — the economy was operating largely on barter and Soviet-era notes.
