Kazakhstan's switch to Latin script for Kazakh — officially decreed by President Nazarbayev in 2017 — required a full redesign of circulating coinage, since the Cyrillic legends on existing issues became policy-obsolete overnight. This piece is part of that transition series, issued as the country methodically replaced Soviet-era orthographic conventions with a Latin alphabet modeled loosely on Turkish.
The changeover was not without friction; multiple revised Latin alphabets were proposed and partially rejected between 2017 and 2021, which complicates attribution of exact transitional dates within the KM#461 run.
