| Reverse description | The central field features the official stylized emblem of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, depicting three dynamic human figures forming an abstract globe motif with flowing lines, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. A fine beaded border runs along the inner periphery. The curved legend 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP GERMANY arcs around the upper portion of the coin, with the year 2005 inscribed at the base, and the copyright notice © 2002 FIFA TM appearing in the right field. |

| Additional information |
Issued ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, this piece belongs to a wave of small-format gold commemoratives that flooded the collector market in the mid-2000s as Pacific island nations monetized their sovereign minting rights. Samoa had no footballing connection to the tournament whatsoever — the Manu Samoa had never qualified, nor came close.
Tanumafili II, who authorized this issue, was at the time the world's last remaining head of state to hold office for life under a traditional chiefly system. He died in 2007, two years after this coin was struck.
