Obverse description The national arms of Samoa occupies the central field, consisting of a heraldic shield bearing the Southern Cross constellation and horizontal wavy lines, surmounted by a Latin cross, and flanked by two olive branches. A scroll beneath the shield carries the national motto in Latin script. The country name SAMOA is inscribed as a legend along the upper rim, while the denomination $10 appears in the exergue below the arms.

Reverse description A right-facing draped bust of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus is depicted in the right portion of the field, rendered in fine relief. To the left, a detailed heliocentric model of the solar system is shown in perspective, with concentric orbital rings surrounding a stylised sun at centre. The upper legend reads NICOLAUS COPERNICUS 1473-1543, arcing along the rim, while the date 2009 is inscribed in the lower exergue. A beaded border frames the entire design.
