| Obverse description | A full-length armored knight stands in profile facing right, holding an upright sword over his right shoulder; before him is the crowned provincial coat of arms of Holland bearing a rampant lion on a plain shield. The figure is rendered in the late sixteenth-century Dutch style with detailed plate armor. A continuous Latin legend circumscribes the design along the inner beaded border, punctuated by pellet stops and a rosette mint mark. The flat, unadorned field isolates the central device with characteristic simplicity. |
