| Obverse description | Crowned coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam centrally placed, flanking the date 1578 and the denomination expressed in Roman numerals (X S). The design is struck on a square klippe flan with chamfered corners, characteristic of siege coinage. A soldering pot (solder pot) counterstamp appears at one corner, serving as a guarantor mark of the issuing authority.
