Reverse description A standing allegorical figure of the Maid of Holland (the Hollandse Maagd) occupies the central field, depicted in classical drapery with a plumed helmet. She holds a hat of liberty on a staff in her raised right hand, while her left arm rests upon a column or altar adorned with the arms of Holland. The encircling legend HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR is divided across the upper field, reading from left to right. The reeded or flowered border frames the composition, and the finely executed figural work reflects the high artistic standard expected of a gold pattern piece.
