Obverse description Central field displays the crowned heraldic shield of Gelderland, bearing a rampant lion with sword, surmounted by an ornate crown that divides the date above. The peripheral legend in Latin runs continuously around the coin within a beaded border. The composition follows the standard Dutch provincial coinage style of the mid-eighteenth century, with the crowned arms occupying the full central field.
