The Cassa per la Circolazione Monetaria della Somalia was a currency authority established by Italy specifically to manage the monetary affairs of the Trust Territory of Somalia, administered by Italy under a UN mandate from 1950. The Somalo was introduced that year as a direct replacement for the East African shilling, and this note is among the earliest issues from that transitional moment — the mandate itself ran only a decade, until Somali independence in 1960.

Three signature combinations are documented for P#13, suggesting the series ran long enough to survive at least two changes in senior administration at the Cassa. Officina Carte Valori, the Rome security printer, handled the entire output.
