| Obverse description | Against a darkened, mirror-polished field, the state emblem of the Kyrgyz Republic is depicted in the upper central area, rendered in relief and showing a rising sun over mountain peaks above a lake, framed by wheat stalks and surmounted by a stylised eagle. Encircling the field along the upper periphery is a bilingual legend in Kyrgyz and Russian reading ЧЫҢГЫЗ АЙТМАТОВДУН ЧЫГАРМАСЫ and ПРОИЗВЕДЕНИЕ ЧИНГИЗА АЙТМАТОВА. In the lower half of the field, the facsimile signature of author Chingiz Aitmatov appears in cursive script, with the abbreviated attribution Ч. АЙТМАТОВ and the date 2009 at the bottom. |

The White Ship (Белый пароход) is the title of a 1970 novella by Chingiz Aitmatov, the most internationally recognized Kyrgyz writer of the Soviet period. The story follows an orphaned boy living in a remote mountain forest, and its unflinching ending — Aitmatov refused Soviet editorial pressure to provide a redemptive conclusion — made it controversial at publication. It remains the work most closely identified with Kyrgyz literary identity abroad.
Aitmatov died in June 2008, the year before this coin was issued.
