Peru's polymer 10 Soles was part of the BCRP's phased transition away from cotton-paper notes, a program that accelerated sharply after high-denomination counterfeiting became a documented problem in the mid-2010s. The 10 Sol denomination was considered particularly vulnerable given its role in everyday retail transactions — exactly the level where sophisticated fakes cause the most economic friction.

De La Rue's Gateshead facility handles the physical substrate production for a significant share of the world's polymer banknote output, though the security feature integration and printing processes are distinct operations. The transparent window on this series uses a format unique to the Peruvian issue rather than a generic off-the-shelf solution.
