| Obverse description | A laurel wreath frames the entire coin field, enclosing the ducal titulature of Ferdinando Carlo Gonzaga arranged in five horizontal lines of bold Latin lettering. The inscription reads FERD· CAR·D·G·DVX / MANTVÆ / M·FER·CAR / GVAST, abbreviating his full titles as Duke of Mantua, Montferrat, Caresana, and Guastalla. The plain field and absence of a portrait reflect the typological conventions of late Gonzaga billon coinage. The wreath, composed of laurel leaves and berries, is rendered in a simple but characteristic late-seventeenth-century provincial style. |
