Obverse description The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing horizontal lines and a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, with a crossed spear and palm frond below. The denomination numeral '10' appears prominently in the lower field beneath the arms. The circular legend around the periphery reads 'REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA' above and 'SHILLINGS' to the left and 'SCELLINI' to the right, all in raised Latin characters.

Reverse description The reverse features a detailed relief of a pig in left-facing profile, positioned centrally in the field, above the inscription 'PIG' and the large date '2000' in the lower portion. A Chinese character for pig (猪) appears above the animal. Encircling the design along the periphery is a sequence of years denoting previous Years of the Pig in the Chinese lunar calendar: '1911·1923·1935·1947·1959·1971·1983·1995·2007', referencing the cyclical recurrence of the zodiac sign.
