Obverse description Bare-headed bust of James VI facing right, depicted in armour with an elaborately decorated breastplate and a ruffled collar, rendered in the late Renaissance style characteristic of Scottish hammered coinage. The effigy shows the king with short hair and youthful features, truncated at the shoulder. The bust is contained within an inner beaded circle, with the Latin royal legend disposed around the circumference between two beaded borders.
