Additional information

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by any UN member state, making the Bank of Somaliland's coinage a legal curiosity — accepted domestically, invisible internationally. This 2006 series adopted the twelve signs of the Western zodiac, an unusual choice for a predominantly Muslim territory, though the practical goal was straightforward: generating international collector interest to bring hard currency into an isolated economy.

KM#12 corresponds to the Cancer issue within that zodiac set.
