Obverse description Printed in black and rust-brown on pale cream paper, the obverse carries a large guilloche underprint with 'TEN SHILLINGS' lettered across the central field, flanked by the bank's title in ornate gothic script at upper left and a scalloped denomination panel '10s.' at upper right. To the left, an intaglio oval vignette presents a bearded male portrait in period dress within a decorative cartouche, above a denomination tablet reading '10/s'. The promise-to-pay text, issue place and date 'Malta, 1st October 1886' in copperplate script occupy the centre, with signature lines and entry fields at the foot and the printer's imprint 'BRADBURY, WILKINSON & CO. ENGRAVERS &c. LONDON' at lower left.
