Comments

This note was issued just over a year before Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence in November 1965, making it one of the last pieces of Rhodesian currency produced under conditions of relative political normalcy. The Reserve Bank of Rhodesia had only been established in 1964, splitting monetary functions away from the Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland following the dissolution of the Central African Federation — which is why the issuing authority on this series appears so briefly in the historical record.

N.H.B. Bruce served as the first Governor of the newly constituted Reserve Bank, and his signature appears on only a narrow window of issues before the political situation transformed both the bank's standing and its access to overseas printers.
