Additional information

By 1984, Israel was in the grip of one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes of the twentieth century — annual inflation that year exceeded 400%, ultimately forcing a complete currency reform in 1985 that replaced the sheqel with the new sheqel at a rate of 1,000 to one. The 10 sheqalim denomination, which would have seemed substantial at its introduction, was essentially worthless pocket change within months of striking.

Herzl died in 1904, eighty years before this coin was issued, never knowing the state he agitated for would come to exist.
