| Obverse description | Right-facing unadorned portrait of Head of State Malietoa Tanumafili II occupies the central field, rendered in moderate relief in a plain civilian style. The circumferential legend reads MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II to the left and SAMOA to the right, in raised Latin lettering following the rim. The date, flanked by two small five-pointed stars, appears at the base of the coin below the truncation. The engraver's initials HP are present at the lower right of the portrait truncation, attributing the design to Thomas Humphrey Paget. |
