Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing portrait bust of Malietoa Tanumafili II, Head of State of Western Samoa, modelled in a restrained, naturalistic style by engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear in small incuse letters at the lower right of the bust truncation. The circumferential legend reads 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO', arranged around the full periphery of the field, separated from the rim by a narrow raised border.
