Obverse description Central device features the Imperial chrysanthemum seal (kikkamon) of sixteen petals, serving as the imperial mon of the Emperor of Japan. The denomination numeral and the character for 'sen' appear above the chrysanthemum, while stylized paulownia (kiri) blossoms and foliage are depicted in the lower field. The overall design follows the austere, emblematic style typical of Shōwa-era Japanese coinage.
