Reverse description Central round perforation encircled by an ornate arabesque framework of interlocking scrollwork in high relief. The four kanji characters of the inscription are distributed symmetrically in the field: 大 (Great) and 日 (Sun/Japan) at the upper right and upper center, 本 (Origin/Japan) at the upper left, and 昭和 (Shōwa) at the lower right, 八年 (Year Eight) at the lower left. Small cherry blossom rosettes accent the field at the lateral positions. The design is framed by a beaded outer border.
