Obverse description The crowned shield of the Order of Malta, bearing the white eight-pointed cross on a quartered field, is centrally displayed and flanked by two ornate palm branches. A royal crown surmounts the escutcheon, while a small star appears above in the upper field. The circular legend reads the Grand Master's name and title, with the date 1761 incorporated into the left legend. The entire design is set within a finely beaded border.
