| Obverse description | Youthful draped and armored bust of Charles Emmanuel II facing right, with flowing hair falling to the shoulder, rendered in high relief in the baroque manner. The date appears in the exergue below the truncation. The encircling Latin legend reads around the periphery within a beaded border, identifying the ruler by name and title. |

| Additional information |
Charles Emmanuel II was fourteen years old when his mother Christine of France — daughter of Henri IV — finally relinquished her regency in 1648, though she continued to exert considerable influence over Savoyard policy well into the 1650s. This 10 Scudi issue falls squarely within that complicated transitional decade, when the duke was consolidating personal authority while navigating French pressure and managing the aftermath of the Wars of the Fronde on his borders.
The three-year window of this emission is narrow, and surviving examples at this weight in gold are uncommon by any measure of large-denomination Italian baroque coinage.
