Obverse description Central field depicts the crowned arms of Zug — a divided shield featuring a horizontal bar — surmounted by a displayed eagle with spread wings, all within a beaded inner circle. The date 16-02 is divided by the shield on either side. The circumscribed Latin legend reads MONETA. CIVI: TVGIENSIS, identifying this as the coinage of the citizens of Zug. The hammered flan displays typical irregular edges consistent with early seventeenth-century Swiss cantonal minting practice.
