Obverse description The entire obverse field is occupied by a bold, intricately styled Arabic calligraphic inscription arranged in a decorative interlocking composition. The legend reads 'Al-Sultan Ali bin Hamud', identifying the reigning Sultan of Zanzibar. The script is rendered in a dense, ornamental Naskh-influenced style that fills the coin's field to the rim, with no portraiture, devices, or exergue present. The calligraphy is deeply struck, giving strong relief against the flat field. The overall design reflects the Islamic artistic tradition prevalent in Zanzibari coinage of the early twentieth century.

Reverse description The reverse features a central motif of a tall date palm tree rising from a decorative base flanked by two reclining lions facing outward, elements drawn from the arms of Zanzibar. To the left of the palm, an Arabic inscription denotes the denomination '10 Sant' in Arabic script. To the right, the Western numeral '10' and the Arabic word 'Sant' appear in matching denomination reference. The date '1908' is inscribed in Western numerals along the lower exergue. The composition is balanced and heraldic in character, combining Arabic and Latin numeral elements within a plain raised rim.
