The 1957 Indonesian series was issued during a period of acute political and economic instability — Sukarno's government was simultaneously managing a regional rebellion (the PRRI-Permesta uprising began the following year) and preparing for the nationalizations that would reshape the country's financial institutions. De La Rue's involvement reflects Indonesia's continued reliance on foreign printers for high-quality fiduciary production well into the independence period, a dependency the government was ideologically uncomfortable with but practically unable to avoid.
P#49 carries only a watermark as its security provision — modest by De La Rue's own standards for the era, though consistent across the lower denominations of this series.
