Comments

Sem Hartz was a Dutch typographer and engraver of considerable reputation — his work for Joh. Enschedé en Zonen in Haarlem is well documented — but this note was produced domestically at Percetakan Kebayoran in Jakarta, not in the Netherlands. Indonesia was by 1952 only a few years into genuine monetary independence, and the decision to print locally carried obvious political weight even when foreign design talent was still being drawn upon.

Percetakan Kebayoran was the first Indonesian state security printer, and early output from the facility shows variable ink consistency across the series.
