| Obverse description | The Ashoka Lion Capital of Sarnath, the national emblem of India, is depicted centrally in high relief, showing three lions atop an abacus bearing the Dharma Chakra wheel flanked by a bull and a horse. The national motto 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate) appears in Devanagari script below the emblem. The denomination '10' is prominently displayed in the lower field, with 'RUPEES' inscribed to the right along the inner border and 'रुपये' to the left. The bilingual legends 'भारत' in Devanagari and 'INDIA' in Latin script arc around the upper periphery on either side of the emblem. |

Issued to mark the centenary of Subhas Chandra Bose's birth, this commemorative came at a politically charged moment — Bose's reputation in independent India had long been complicated by his wartime alliance with the Axis powers and his formation of the Indian National Army under Japanese sponsorship. By the 1990s, official commemoration had largely rehabilitated him as a nationalist hero, though the circumstances of his death in a 1945 plane crash over Taiwan remain disputed and have fueled conspiracy theories for decades.
