Additional information

Mauritius issued this piece to mark the July 1981 marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, part of a wave of Commonwealth commemoratives coordinated across dozens of issuing authorities that year. The Bank of Mauritius produced both a cupro-nickel circulation strike and this .925 silver proof version — the latter intended almost entirely for the collector market rather than any domestic monetary use.

The Royal Mint in London supplied technical specifications to participating Commonwealth nations to ensure design consistency across the series, though each issuer retained latitude over denomination and local inscriptions.
