Obverse description The copper-nickel centre features the Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, depicted in high relief with three visible lions atop an abacus bearing a centrally placed Dharma Chakra flanked by a galloping horse and bull in low relief. Below the capital, the national motto is inscribed in Devanagari script reading 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth Alone Triumphs'). The mint mark appears below the motto, with the date of issue at the bottom of the centre disc. The surrounding aluminium bronze ring bears the bilingual legend 'भारत' in Devanagari script to the left and 'INDIA' in Latin script to the right.
