Obverse description At left, a portrait of King Birendra in military dress faces right, flanked by a watermark window at right bearing the crown watermark. At centre, an intaglio vignette of the idol of Lord Changunarayan is rendered in fine line engraving against a guilloche underprint. The issuing bank name appears in Devanagari script, with the king's signature and that of the Governor below the central vignette.

Reverse description The central vignette presents a pair of Black Bucks (Antilope cervicapra) grazing amidst a landscape of trees, executed in detailed intaglio engraving in brown tones against a multicolour underprint. The Royal Arms of Nepal appear at lower right, with the denomination numerals in Devanagari (१०) and Western (10) script at upper left and right respectively within decorative cartouches. Inscriptions in Devanagari at lower left and the English legend "RUPEES TEN" at lower right complete the reverse design, framed by an ornate geometric border.
