Reverse description Central device depicts the coat of arms of Malgobek, featuring a circular shield bearing a rising sun with radiating rays over a stylized oil derrick, symbolic of the city's role in the Battle of Malgobek during World War II; the shield is surmounted by a mural crown with crenellations and a crossed sword, and flanked below by a wreath of wheat ears. The curved upper legend 'ГОРОДА ВОИНСКОЙ СЛАВЫ' (Cities of Military Glory) arcs across the upper field in Cyrillic, while the city name 'МАЛГОБЕК' is inscribed in bold Cyrillic letters along the lower field. Small decorative elements flank the lower inscription on either side.

Additional information

Malgobek was awarded the title "City of Military Glory" by presidential decree in May 2010, recognizing its role in the brutal autumn 1942 fighting that halted the German advance toward the Grozny oilfields. The battle is rarely covered in Western historiography despite costing both sides tens of thousands of casualties. This coin is one of a long-running Bank of Russia series commemorating cities awarded that honor, struck in the hundreds of millions and distributed through ordinary circulation channels rather than collector packaging.
