Reverse description The central disc depicts the iconic wartime photograph 'Kombat' by Max Alpert, showing Junior Political Commissar Aleksei Yeryomenko rising with pistol raised to lead a charge, taken moments before his death on 12 July 1942 in Voroshilovgrad Oblast, Ukraine. A five-pointed star in outline bridges the central disc and the outer brass ring. The upper arc of the ring bears the commemorative legend '55 ЛЕТ ВЕЛИКОЙ ПОБЕДЫ' (55th Anniversary of the Great Victory), while the lower arc displays the dates '1941' and '1945' flanking the base of the design.
