| Additional information |
Transnistria — officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic — is an unrecognized breakaway state that declared independence from Moldova in 1990, backed by Russian military presence that remains to this day. Its central bank issues coins that are legal tender domestically but accepted nowhere else, making the entire output essentially commemorative by necessity. The Epoch of Aquarius piece belongs to a zodiac series the Transnistrian Republican Bank produced in the mid-2000s, a period when several post-Soviet microstates discovered numismatic exports as a modest hard-currency revenue stream.
