| Obverse description | Blue-green tint on white paper. The state arms of the Bukhara Soviet People's Republic — a circular vignette with crescent and star motif — is centred at the top, surrounded by ornate arabesque scrollwork filling the field. Arabic script inscriptions appear throughout, with denomination text and official legends arranged in decorative cartouches across the lower portion, and the year 1340 (AH) inscribed at the foot. |

The Bukhara Soviet People's Republic was a short-lived Soviet client state proclaimed in September 1920 after the Red Army overthrew the Emirate of Bukhara — one of the last traditional Islamic polities in Central Asia. Its paper currency was a practical necessity in a region where the old emir's coinage and Russian imperial notes were still circulating chaotically alongside Soviet issues. The 1922 series was printed under extremely constrained conditions, and production quality reflects that.
The state itself ceased to exist in 1924 when it was absorbed into the newly created Uzbek and Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republics during Stalin's national delimitation of Central Asia. The entire monetary system was extinguished with it, making the circulation window for this issue exceptionally narrow — under two years at most.
