Arkady Kuleshov was one of the most decorated Soviet Belarusian poets of the twentieth century, a Stalin Prize laureate whose wartime verse — particularly the 1942 poem "Flag of the Brigade" — made him a genuine literary figure rather than a purely state-sponsored one. Belarus issued a sustained series of commemorative silver pieces honoring national cultural figures throughout the 2010s, and Kuleshov, born in 1914, was a natural inclusion for the centenary of his birth.
