Part of the Bank of Russia's long-running "Regions of the Russian Federation" bimetallic series, this issue marks the Amur Oblast, a vast territory in Russia's Far East bordering China along the Amur River. The region's administrative and economic identity has always been shaped by that border — a frontier that was formally fixed only by the 1858 Treaty of Aigun, which transferred roughly 600,000 square kilometers from Qing China to Imperial Russia.
