| Obverse description | The face is printed in red on a pale guilloche underprint and bears a stamp-like vignette at upper centre with the RSFSR state emblem — hammer and sickle surmounted by a wreath — set within a geometric frame of fine latticework. The large numeral '10' and denomination 'РУБ.' appear in the centre of the vignette, below which four lines of Cyrillic inscription identify the issuer, note type, and date. A bold warning legend against counterfeiting runs across the foot of the note in a solid red band. |

The 1922 RSFSR small-denomination notes were issued during the early NEP period, when the Soviet monetary system was in open crisis — rampant inflation from the civil war years had so thoroughly destroyed purchasing power that this 10-rouble note was, by the time it reached circulation, worth a fraction of a pre-revolutionary kopek. The Soviet government was simultaneously running multiple parallel currency series, including sovznaks and later chervontsy, creating genuine confusion about which paper held any value at all.
P#149 belongs to the sovznak series, printed in enormous quantities and redeemed at catastrophic rates during the 1923–24 currency reform — 1 new rouble for 1,000,000 old ones.
