| Obverse description | The State Arms of the USSR occupies the upper left, with a large ornate guilloche medallion at centre bearing the numeral '10' above the Cyrillic denomination РУБЛЕЙ, flanked by wheat-sheaf sprays on either side. The "15 Ribbons" designation distinguishes this note from the otherwise near-identical 1947 series — the ribbon count on the Soviet state emblem was updated from 11 to 16 in 1956 to reflect the changed number of union republics, but the 1957 printing landed at 15, a transitional count that was quickly superseded. Collectors use the ribbon tally precisely because the printed year gives no indication of which variant is in hand.
