| Additional information |
Georgy Glebov was a Soviet-era Belarusian theatrical actor and director, a People's Artist of the USSR, who spent the bulk of his career at the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre in Minsk. This coin was issued the year Belarus was still finding its footing as an independent state with an active commemorative program — the National Bank had only begun issuing collector silver in the mid-1990s. Glebov's centennial offered an early occasion to anchor national cultural identity in precious metal.
