Obverse description Central field displays the Coat of Arms of Fujairah flanked by two flags, each bearing the Arabic legend 'Al Fujairah' — the inscription appearing normally on the left flag and mirrored on the right flag. Surrounding legends identify the state in both Arabic and Latin scripts, with the denomination and date rendered in both Western and Hijri numerals. A stamped mintage figure appears at the lower left, while an oval cartouche at the lower right indicates the silver fineness. The design is enclosed within a beaded border.

Reverse description The reverse depicts two prominent ecclesiastical buildings rendered in fine architectural detail — a domed basilica in the upper left and a colonnaded cathedral facade in the lower center — commemorating Pope Paul VI's 1970 pastoral visit to the Philippines. To the right, a bare-headed left-facing profile portrait of Pope Paul VI is shown, with radiating sunbeams emanating from behind the dome in the upper field. The date '1970' appears in the left field, and the curved legend 'PILGRIM IN THE PHILIPPINES' runs along the lower rim. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.

Additional information

Fujairah was among the smallest and least populous of the Trucial States when it began issuing commemorative coinage in the late 1960s — a practice that had less to do with monetary need and everything to do with the international collector market. These issues were produced almost entirely for export, with Franklin Mint handling distribution to numismatic subscribers worldwide. The "papal visit" being commemorated here was Paul VI's trip to Manila in November 1970, the first visit by a reigning pope to Asia.

Fujairah formally joined the UAE federation in 1971, after which its independent coinage program ceased entirely.
